What Happens in a First Counselling Session? Here's What to Expect

Taking the first step towards counselling can feel daunting. For many people, it's not the idea of talking that holds them back — it's not knowing what they're walking into. So let me take the mystery out of it.

You won't be put on the spot.

Your first session with us is not about diving straight into the deep end. It's a gentle conversation — a chance for us to get to know you, understand what's brought you here, and for you to get a feel for whether this is the right space for you. There's no pressure to share more than you're ready to.

We'll talk about what you need.

We'll ask some simple questions — what's been going on for you, what kind of support you're looking for, and what you'd like to feel differently about. You don't need to have all the answers. Most people don't. That's okay.

It's completely confidential.

Everything you share stays between us. Our sessions are held in a safe, non-judgmental space — whether in person or virtually. You can speak freely.

There's no cost.

All of our services at KGC Foundation are completely free. No fees, no forms to fill about your income, no awkwardness. Just support.

You're in control.

If after your first session you decide it's not for you, that's absolutely fine. But in our experience, most people leave that first conversation feeling lighter than when they arrived.

If you've been thinking about reaching out, let this be your sign. We're here, and there's space for you.
