Free Mental Health Support in the UK — What's Available and How to Access It

Finding mental health support can feel overwhelming — especially when you're already struggling. One of the biggest barriers people face is the assumption that help costs money. We want to change that narrative.

The truth is, free support exists. You just need to know where to look.

What the NHS Offers

The NHS provides talking therapies through the IAPT (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies) programme. You can self-refer without needing a GP, though waiting times can be lengthy. For crisis support, NHS 111 is available 24/7.

Crisis Lines — Always Free

  • Samaritans: 116 123 (free, 24/7)
  • Shout Crisis Text Line: Text SHOUT to 85258
  • CALM: 0800 58 58 58 (5pm–midnight)
  • Mind: 0300 123 3393

Community-Based Support

This is where organisations like KGC Foundation come in. We offer free, community-rooted counselling, mediation, bereavement support, and befriending — available both in person and virtually. No referral needed. No waiting list fees. No cost at all.

We believe that your postcode, your income, or your background should never determine whether you get support. So we removed every financial barrier we could.

How to Access KGC Foundation's Services

Simply visit our services page and book a session. It really is that straightforward. If you're unsure which service is right for you, reach out and we'll help you find the best fit.

A Word on Stigma

Seeking help is not weakness. It is one of the bravest things a person can do. Whether you're dealing with anxiety, grief, relationship difficulties, or simply feeling lost — you deserve support. And you deserve it for free.

We're here. Come as you are.
